The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that, effective 1st December 2025, all Bank Guarantees will be executed and managed exclusively through the Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS).
This strategic shift is part of KRA’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency, transparency, and automation within customs operations. By leveraging the iCMS platform, KRA aims to streamline the processing of Bank Guarantees, reduce paperwork, and improve the overall ease of doing business for customs stakeholders.
Who is Affected
This directive applies to all stakeholders involved in customs transactions, including:
- Importers and exporters
- Clearing and forwarding agents
- Commercial banks and financial institutions
- Other customs and trade participants
What Stakeholders Should Do
All stakeholders are advised to ensure that any new Bank Guarantees issued from 1st December 2025 onward are processed through the iCMS platform in full compliance with KRA’s directive.
Why This Matters
The implementation of the iCMS for Bank Guarantees marks another major milestone in KRA’s digital transformation journey. The system enhances visibility, minimizes processing delays, and aligns Kenya’s customs processes with global best practices in trade facilitation and automation.
KRA remains committed to leveraging technology to create a seamless, efficient, and transparent customs environment that supports trade growth and compliance.
